Recruiting Nuggets: New Offers Dispensed…And Reach into the Portal.

The Clemson Tigers have begun to hit the recruiting trail this week despite dealing with the departure of DL Coach Todd Bates. The hits keep on coming but what doesn’t break you down will make you stronger.

The Tigers have offered transfer offensive lineman O’Cyrus Torrence, 6-5 330. The big OL is transferring from Louisiana and is receiving a lot of attention from other Power 5 schools including Auburn and Ole Miss. The Tigers have yet to secure a commitment for the transfer portal.

Former Mississippi State commitment S Kylon Griffin has been offered by the Tigers. Griffin, 6-1 180 out of Montgomery, Alabama, decommitted from MSU in early December and is receiving interest from other Power 5 programs, including Nebraska and Boston College.

The staff has handed out three offers for the 2023 class, bringing their total of offers to that class to 43.

4-star edge rusher Rico Walker, 6-4 233 out Hickory, NC, picked up a Clemson offer yesterday. He is the #3 player in the state of North Carolina, and ranked as the 14th best edge rusher in the 2023 class. He recently has picked up offers from Miami, Michigan State and Tennessee.

4-star defensive tackle Keith Samspon, Jr., 6-3 285 has been wanting a Clemson offer for some time now and got it yesterday. Sampson, out of New Bern, NC, is the 4th ranked player in the state of North Carolina and ranks 30th in the nation at his position in the 2023 class. He is expected to narrow down his Top 5 next week and currently has 21 offers.

Mack Brown had a great 2022 class, convincing homegrown talent to stay home, but after another lackluster season and a poor showing in the Duke’s Mayo bowl, it might be a little tougher to keep talent home in the 2023 class.

4-star edge rusher Jaquavious (Qua) Russaw picked up a Clemson offer yesterday. Russaw, 6-2 230 out of Troy, Alabama, is ranked 6th in the state of Alabama, and the 4th best edge rusher in the 2023 class. He currently has 22 offers but expect that number to grow. Power 5 programs such as Alabama, USC, Michigan State, and Miami are in the hunt for his signature.

To date, as mentioned before, the Tigers have offered 43 prospects in the 2023 class, with only 1 commitment, WR Nathaniel Joseph out of Miami, Florida. After a small class in the early signing period, the Tigers will need to have a larger 2023 class. No one knows this better than Dabo Swinney.
