Vizzina and Reynolds Continue the Quarterback Competition
The quarterback battle between Christopher Vizzina and true freshman Tait Reynolds remains very much alive.
During Friday’s open viewing period, Vizzina, Reynolds, graduate Trent Pearman and freshman Brock Bradley all worked through quarterback drills. The most significant comparison continues to be between Vizzina and Reynolds, and each showed some of what makes this competition intriguing.
Reynolds gets the football out quickly and continues to display the arm talent that made him one of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class. He also looked comfortable throwing while moving outside the pocket. One of his more noticeable connections Friday came on a well-thrown ball to Bryant Wesco Jr. on a skinny post.
Vizzina, meanwhile, showed the touch that comes with being the more experienced player in the competition. One of his better throws during the viewing period was a deep ball down the sideline to T.J. Moore, another reminder of the chemistry Vizzina has developed with Clemson’s veteran receivers during his time in the program.
There is nowhere near enough information available after two non-padded practices to declare a leader, and Clemson has given no indication that it intends to rush the decision. What is clear is that Reynolds has enough physical ability to make this a genuine competition, while Vizzina brings experience in the program and a familiarity with Clemson’s veteran personnel.
Bradley also appears to have made progress since the spring, giving Clemson another young quarterback worth watching as camp develops.
