Trevor Lawrence Talks ACC Championship vs. Notre Dame

By Zach Wagner

Clemson starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence met with the media for the final time before the Tigers head to Charlotte, North Carolina this weekend for a sixth straight trip to the ACC Championship Game appearance, this time a match up with the second ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Lawrence did not play when the Tigers traveled to South Bend in November in the Tigers 47-40 double-overtime loss after a positive COVID-19 test the week prior.

“When I was on the sidelines for that game, especially when we were on offense, I was trying to talk to our guys, and give D.J. any help I could.” Said Lawrence, “usually I’m on the winning side of games, so losing that game and getting a chance to play them again, that’s a really cool opportunity.”

When asked about graduating this week, the junior quarterback stated that it was a weight lifted off his shoulders, and that he’s been “doing school for 15 or 16 years now and I’m glad to be done with it.”

When asked about applying for Grad School, Lawrence gave a laugh and said he’s not planning on going furthering his college education and reiterated that he’s glad he’s done with school. Lawrence will graduate in just three and a half years.

With Saturday being Lawrence’s likely last ACC Championship Game (we can all pray we see #16 on the sidelines next year), Lawrence stated that since his freshman year that he has gotten better at just about everything in being a passer.

“Accuracy, better understanding of what’s going on around me, managing the game better and knowing the situations. I think the biggest thing is just the accuracy and the consistency.”

When it comes time for the match up on Saturday, Lawrence will be no stranger to having the spotlight on himself, and the Tiger offense.

“These are the games you get excited for. These are the big ones that are fun to be apart of and you’re playing a great team. We already played them once, so we got a little more at stake and even more fuel than normal for this game.”

Clemson will look to win its sixth straight ACC Title on Saturday inside of Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers. #3 Clemson (9-1, 8-1 ACC) and Notre Dame (10-0,9-0 ACC) will kick off at 4 P.M. and can be watched on ABC.
