Clemson Sets Program Record With Seven All-ACC Awards

Clemson, S.C. – Five members of the Clemson women’s soccer team were named to All-ACC teams, announced by the conference office on Friday. The five players selected are the most since 2015 while the seven total team awards mark the most earned in a single season in program history. 

Second Team All-ACC

Makenna Morris, Fr., D – Playing and starting in all 10 games on Clemson’s backline, Morris added an assist in her first career game and added 10 shots to her stat book in the 2020 fall season. The Germantown, Md. native ranked second on the Clemson squad with 863 minutes, just behind sophomore Harper White’s 885 mark. 

Mariana Speckmaier, Sr., F – In her four years on campus, Speckmaier has earned All-ACC honors in three of her seasons including a spot on the 2017 All-Freshman Team and 2018 Second Team All-ACC award. To date, the Miami, Fla. native has recorded 25 goals and six assists for 56 career points. Both of the senior’s goals in the 2020 fall season would come in game-winning fashion while also picking up an assist in the season opener. 

Third Team All-ACC

Megan Bornkamp, Fr., MF – Leading the team for goals (5), points (11), and shots (24) in the 2020 fall campaign, Bornkamp made an immediate impact upon entering Tigertown. In addition to her team success, the freshman also ranked among the top-10 in the ACC for goals, game-winning goals, and shots on goal.

Hal Hershfelt, So., MF – Earning a spot in the Starting XI for every game in the fall season, the Atlanta, Ga. native found the back of the net against Notre Dame on the road while picking up an assist on Courtney Jones’s goal against Virginia. Hershfelt has now recorded back-to-back seasons of receiving All-ACC recognition after being named to the All-Freshman Team in 2019. 

Courtney Jones, Jr., F – Jones, a first-time All-ACC selection, was pivotal in the Tigers’ attack in 2020. The junior from Carmel, Ind. recorded 668 minutes in the fall season while additionally tallying a goal against Virginia and an assist in Clemson’s season opener against Miami. 

All-Freshman Team

Makenna Morris, Fr., D – Ranking first among all All-Freshman Team selections with 856 minutes through the fall season, Makenna joins her sister in the ACC record books after Maliah earned All-Freshman honors in 2019. It marks the second time in program history that siblings have gone back-to-back earning All-ACC nods. Both Nancy and Julie Augustyniak earned All-ACC recognition in 1999 while Nancy picked up a First Team nod in 2000. 

Megan Bornkamp, Fr., MF – At the conclusion of the fall season, Bornkamp was tied with Tori Powell of Virginia Tech for most goals across the ACC All-Freshman Team selections with five. In addition to her goals mark, the Mooresville, N.C. native ranked second for total points with 11 across the All-Freshman Team.
