Clemson Football Recruiting Update: Notes and Nuggets

The early signing period has come and gone for college football prospective athletes. Its the general consensus that the cream of the crop usually gets signed during that first period. The Clemson Tigers brought in a small class of 12 in December, and is looking forward to adding several more prospects February 2nd.

Clemson has already added two commits since the early signing period, CB Myles Oliver and WR Cole Turner. While not highly rated, Coach Dabo Swinney is pulling out the magic wand and bringing in players that fit his culture and his program. Hunter Renfrow was a 2-star according to Rivals, had a 5.3 rating and walked on to Clemson after getting offers from Appalachian State, Wofford, Presbyterian, Gardner Webb and Furman. The rest is history. There are many more success stories coming out of this Clemson program, too many to mention. The point is, Dabo brings in players that fit his recruiting footprint, not just guys with stars.

This weekend, the Tigers are bringing in at least four prospects that we know of. DT Caden Story (recently de-committed from Auburn), LB Kobe McCloud (recently de-committed from FIU and brother of Ray Ray McCloud), S Kylon Griffin and RB Andrew Paul. LB TJ Dudley (teammate to Griffin) was scheduled to come in as well, but is headed to Florida this weekend. Sources report that Dudley may be looking to visit Jan. 28-29. Story is set to announce in the near future between Auburn, Florida and Clemson.

According to 247, Clemson currently sits at #3 in the ACC in recruiting and #21 in the country. The Tigers are at 218.48 points with 14 total commits and a 91.70 average score per player. This number would be higher but two of Clemson’s signees are kickers, and Turner is not ranked. Even so, that average ranks 6th in the country, and with a couple of more signees, thos numbers could improve.

DE Raheim Lawson from nearby Daniel High School is close to making a decision and could announce soon. As a senior, Lawson registered 75 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. Lawson is the younger brother of former Clemson Tiger Shaq Lawson.

More recruiting info to come as things heat up leading into Junior Days on the 29th of January and into the signing day in February.
