Clemson Football Excels in Classroom

Clemson Football Honor Roll

By: Darby Childress

Often fans forget that the players on their favorite college teams aren’t just athletes, they are students first. Clemson University takes its athletes’ academics very seriously. Athletes are required to take a minimum of twelve credit hours and any athlete falling shy of a 2.4 GPA. This requirement does not seem to be an issue for the Clemson Tigers football team. A tweet, posted by Trenton Simpson, shows that thirty players received a minimum of a 4.0 GPA in the 2020 spring semester, for reference if these athletes were to graduate now they would be graduating summa cum laude, which signifies that they graduated “with the highest distinction”, it is the highest distinction of the three Latin honors used in the United States.

Among those athletes are: LaVonta Bentley
Matt Bockhorst
Will Brown

David Cote Peter Cote
Fred Davis Carson Donnelly Josh Jackson Trevor Lawrence Max May

Patrick McClure Matt McMahan
Hall Morton
Joseph Ngata
Kane Patterson Taisun Phommacahn Luke Price

Will Putnam Klayton Randolph Darien Rencher

Cole Renfrow Amari Rodgers Trenton Simpson Austin Spence Will Spiers Drew Swinney Will Swinney Elijah Turner Jonathan Weitz Jordan Williams
