Clemson Falls to UVA in ACC Home Opener

 

 

 

Clemson vs #4 Virginia

 

            After the festivities of the National Championship celebration came to a close, bundled up Clemson fans gathered in Littlejohn Coliseum to cheer on the Clemson men’s basketball team as they took on the University of Virginia Cavaliers in a noon tipoff. The Tigers are in need of a win after dropping the first two games of ACC play on the road to Duke and Syracuse.

 

First Half

 

            The Tigers got of to a slow start, going back and forth with the Tigers and Cavs going back and forth until Kyle Guy got the Cavs up on the board first. Marquise Reed would get the Tigers up on the board after being scoreless for 7 minutes. Virginia went on a 7-0 run for 5 and a half minutes. Virginia’s defense has forced the Tigers out of the box forcing the Tigers to shoot from the 3. Virginia is shooting at 42% making 10-24 shots compared to Clemson who is shooting 24% making 5-21 shots. The Cavs are leading shooting at 38% for free throws compared to Clemson’s 17%. Marquise Reed led the Tigers with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Aamir Simms leads with 1 assist.

 

 

 

 Second Half

 

            Clemson came out pretty hot at the start of the second half and started trailing Virginia by as little as two points but Virginia was not going to let the Tigers get away with a win that easy. The Cavaliers nailed many three pointers to help them pull away from the Tigers early in the second half. The Tigers were unable to pull out a win against the Cavs and have fallen to 10-6 on the season. Throughout the game, Virginia shot at 40% and making 23-57 compared to Clemson’s 28% where they made 14-54. The Cavs shot three pointers at 43% compared to Clemson’s 16%. For the Tigers, Marquise Reed led the team with 14 points, Elijah Thomas led with 12 rebounds and Aamir Simms with 1 assist.

 

 

 

            The Tigers move to 10-6 on the season and will be back in action Wednesday 1/6 against Georgia Tech at 9:00.
