ALL IN: Tigers get Commitment from 4 Star Peach State OL

“Flapjack” Commits

4-star offensive tackle Zechariah “Flapjack” Owens made his commitment today to the Clemson Tigers. The big lineman, 6-7 350, selected the Tigers out of 34+ offers, which included Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and others.

Owens is ranked #21 by Rivals at his position in the 2023 class while ESPN ranks him as the 17th best offensive tackle in the country.

He joins two other 4-star linemen in Ian Reed and Harris Sewell. Coach Thomas Austin has put in the work. This is his first recruiting class and certainly is off on the right foot. There is more to come.

“Listed at 6-7 345, Owens is a massive, physical, aggressive OT that moves well for his size. He can bend with good foot quickness, solid to good COD skills, and good balance. He displays the movement skills to effectively climb to the 2nd level and pull on counter plays. Owens engulfs small defenders at the point of attack with good pad level and play strength. Glasses contact explosiveness and works to finish. He has good pass posture, strong punch, and the agility to cover. Has very good potential but will need to work to control his weight and reshape his body over the next couple of years. “

—– Tom Luginbill, National Recruiting Director, CFB Analyst, ESPN/ABC, SiriusXM Host.

Owens becomes the Tigers 16th commitment in the 2023 class. This class is clearly NOT “cycling out” the year after losing both coordinators and promoting from within. People lose sight of the fact that Clemson’s top recruiting “ace in the hole” is still in Death Valley and not in Virginia or Oklahoma.
