#2 Clemson vs Texas A&M Final Game Summary :

 

1st Quarter:

 

A&M took the opening kickoff and sustained a drive that took off 5:42 off the clock and resulted in a missed field goal attempt wide right .

The ensuing possession saw the Tigers go 3 and out following a sack for an 8 yard loss.  And resulted in a punt.  A&M then started at their own 45 and subsequently drove the ball down to the Clemson 23 yard line and stalled.  Field goal attempt then of 40 yards was good and Texas A&M then took a 3-0 lead.

 

The Tiger ensuing drive started at the 25 yard line following a touchback on the kickoff.  Kelly Bryant hooked up with Amari Rodgers for a gain of 64 yards on a huge play.  This drive got the Tigers in position to score.  Then Bryant,  a couple of plays later walk into the end zone on a Quarterback keeper.  Tiger took the lead 7-3 after the 75 yard drive that took 3:05 off the clock leaving 1:23 in the quarter. 

 

The quarter ended with A&M in possession of the ball  on their own 11 yard line following a tackle for loss by Clemson defensive end Austin Bryant.  Clemson 7 Texas A&M 3.

 

2nd Quarter:

 

  Drive stalls after the big tackle by Bryant and A&M is forced to punt . Clemson starts next drive on its own 36.  Trevor Lawrence comes in for his first series and fires a 64 yard touchdown to Tee Higgins on a really athletic play by the 6’4 wideout from Tennessee.  Extra point by Greg Huegel is good, Clemson leads 14-3.

 

 

Texas A&M starts the next drive on their own 25 yard line following the touchback from Clemson kicker BT Potter.  After a big sack by defensive end Justin Foster the drive stalls and A&M is again forced to punt. 

 

The next 3 possessions saw both teams exchange punts after short drives. A&M then  drove the ball into Clemson territory and eventually stalled on the 33 yard line.  Aggies lined up for a field goal attempt of 50 yards, that was blocked by Dexter Lawrence and recovered by Mark Fields. 

 

The Tigers then took the ball and drove all the down the A&M one yard line after a big run by Travis Etienne of 28 yards sparked the drive.  Adam Choice then  drove the ball down to the one yard line. The Offense then on 3 and 1 had a missed assignment along the offensive line,   play was stopped for no gain.  Coach Swinney decided to go for it on 4th and 1 bringing in the “Heavy Package” with Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence in the backfield.  Bryant goes under center and fumbled the snap and drive ends with a scoring opportunity left on the field.

3rd Quarter:

 

Tiger get the ball to start the 3rd stanza and after a fumbled snap for negative yardage. . . drive eventually stalled and Clemson punts for 51 yards with a return of 11 yards. The ensuing Aggie drive starts on the A&M 43,   the Aggies then push the ball down to the Tigers 23 yard line, drive stalls there and A&M settles for a 40 yard field goal .  Clemson 14- Texas A&M 6

 

Tigers Cornell Powell then returns kickoff to the 16 yard line, Drive eventually stall and Spiers hits a 50 yard punt after a 14 yard return A&M starts on their own 43 yard line.  After a two run plays A&M goes back to pass and the Tigers defense gets pressure as Clelin Ferrell forces a fumble in to the air that is recovered by Justin Foster. 

 

 

 

Clemson on its next drive on Bryant hits Higgins again for another big gain of 50 yards, Etienne then rushes for 7 more followed by a touchdown pass from Bryant to Deondre Overton over the middle.  Extra point by Huegel is good Clemson 21 Texas A&M 6 with 4:49 left in the 3rd quarter.  

 

Texas A&M’s next offensive possession stars at their own 21, Mond connects on a 69 yard pass play to get them down into 14 yard line  which  leads to a touchdown pass from Mond.  The extra point is good. Clemson 21-Texas A&M 13 

 

Clemson’s next drive starts at the Tiger’s 25 yard line with 4:22 left in the 3rd quarter.  Bryant hits Renfrow on big play for 40 yards to move the ball into A&M territory.  Bryant then runs for 11 yards. A reverse pass attempt by Renfrow to Bryant fails. Etienne then follows up with run of 2 yards.  Followed by shuttle pass for 6 more yards. And then a sweep to the outside for 1 yard touchdown run.  After a successful extra point the score is Clemson 28 Texas A&M 13. 1:01 Left in the 3rd quarter.

 

A&M grabs ensuing kickoff and runs out the 3rd quarter with a 5 yard run.

 

4th Quarter: 

 

Clemson helps A&M with a big roughing the passer call that extends the drive and results in a touchdown pass through the hands of two defenders and into the hands of the A&M wide receiver. 75 yards on six plays. . .  Extra Point is good Clemson 28 Texas A&M 20

 

Clemson then goes 3 and out and punts ball back to A&M. 

 

 

 

 

A&M then starts 1st and 10 and Mond completes a 21 yard pass.  Two incompletions follow that play and then another completed pass for 15 more yards.

 

Clelin Ferrell then sacks Mond for a loss of 6 yards,  followed by another 13 yard completion.  Drive takes the A&M team down to the red-zone. They cannot capitalize on the good fortune, and the biggest play of the game to this point takes place when A&M Wideout is reaching for goal line an is stripped of the ball giving the Tigers possession after a review and touch back called by the officials.

 

Tigers take the kick with the intention of killing the remaining clock but cannot sustain the drive and go 3 and out.  Rugby style punt by Speirs then results in A&M getting the ball at mid field.  Mond Completes big pass down the Clemson 30 and then the next big play of the game as the Aggie QB is pressured and fires a ball between two defenders and the wide out grabs ball on deflection and scores a touchdown.  Clemson 28- Texas A&M 20 with a 2 point conversion to come.  Tigers Defense pressures Mond on the 2 point conversion and flushes him out of the pocket and he fires into the end zone. Where the ball was intercepted by K’Von Wallace.

 

On side kick recovered by Hunter Renfrow and Clemson kills the clock and preserves a 28-10 win in a thriller of a game.
