WTEN: Clemson Defeats College of Charleston, 5-2
CLEMSON, S.C. – With temperatures in the low 70s, the Clemson women’s tennis team moved outside for a match for the first time in 2022, taking down College of Charleston, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Duckworth Family Tennis Complex. Clemson improved to 6-1 on the young season, and 29-1 all-time against the Cougars, who fell to 1-2 on the year.
Clemson is now 6-0 in home matches this year. The Tigers took the doubles point with a 6-0 win from Eleni Louka and Jenna Thompson on court two and a 6-1 win from Ali DeSpain and Samantha Buyckz on court three.
Thompson wasted no time in singles, dispatching Kate Earnhardt, 6-0, 6-1 to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. Daniella Medvedeva battled a second-set tiebreaker, fighting off set point three times to claim her match, 6-1, 7-6(6) on court three. Buyckz clinched it for the Tigers on court six, defeating Victoria Walter 7-5, 6-4. Ali DeSpain picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win on court five to close out the scoring for the Tigers.
Clemson is now off from competition until a trip to Columbia to take on South Carolina at noon on Feb. 20. Clemson won’t play at home until Mar. 11 against Notre Dame, as the Tigers play away five times in a row.
