Watchin' the Tide Roll Away

Take a look at the new prints just in at Allens’ Creations and Clemson Prints.  Trent Allen took the time to tell us all about this unique piece by the Artist Steve Jordan and much more about his great store in Clemson.  Allens’ Creations is the one place you can find the one of a kind unique gifts that NO other store in Clemson can provide.  See here the questions we posed Trent about these newest releases and more.

GM: The new print “Watchin’ the Tide Roll Away”  by Steven Jordan is very interesting. How did it come about?

TA: Steven Jordan is probably the state’s best known artist and he is famous for his SC beach and coastal scenes.  He told me that he wanted to paint a Tiger on the beach – mixing the College Football National Champions mascot and his favorite subject, the beach.  As soon as I heard this I had to tell him about our trip to California what happened near the end of the championship game. With about five minutes to go – the game was basically over and my son Robert, CU class of ’08, pointed to the Alabama crowd leaving the stadium in droves and sang out, “Sittin’ on the dock of the bay, watchin’ the tide roll away.” We laughed and enjoyed the moment together with thousands of Tiger fans who had made the trip.  That song had been on my mind ever since the game and when Mr. Jordan told me about his new idea for a painting I knew we had a title for him.  From there it was just a matter of his putting paint to paper and tweaking the idea a few times to get it right.  I believe this will be one of the best-selling art pieces in the state this year.  Everyone who sees the painting loves it and then when they see the title to go with it – well, it sells itself.

GM: How and when did Allens’ Creations and Mr. Jordan start working together?

TA:  Steven is originally from Anderson and graduated from South Carolina because Clemson did not have an art degree.  He is an amazing artist, a prize-winning artist – and has been a great addition to our print and poster inventory at Allens’ Creations since the late 1980s.  we used to go to the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston every year and we became friends. We worked together on his first Clemson print, “Clemson Summer” over thirty years ago.  That is by far the best selling Clemson print, or poster, ever done.  Since then we have worked together on “Mac’s Drive-In”, “I’ll Be Back”, “Clemson for Shore”, “Paws and Relax”, and a few more Clemson themed prints.  When you see his watercolor images it is not hard to tell that it is “a Steven Jordan”!

GM: What other unique products do you sell at Allens’ Creations that can be purchased at your store in Clemson, or on your web site: ClemsonPrints.com?

TA:.  We have the Gold and Bronze coins from the Cotton Bowl, the National Championship game and the National Champions coins, too. Just yesterday we added a gold plated “3-Time National champs” coin, too.  We have a very limited supply of framed made from the old Cypress bleacher seats that were removed from Memorial Stadium after the 1972 football season.  We just added five more of those to our ClemsonPrints.cm web today.  For over 40 years we have specialized in conservation quality framing and one thing we are doing a lot of right now is framing National Championship tickets and selfies and coins.  Another thing we have is Officially Licensed photos by Carl Ackerman – the lead sports photographer at the athletic department. We now have photos of Hunter Renfrow, Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, and others.  We do our own printing so they can be printed any size and on paper or on canvas.  The new National Champions book will feature the writing of Tim Bourret and the photos of Carl Ackerman.

GM: I know Carl. He grew up in Clemson and we went to Daniel High School together. Actually played football together for the Lions.

GM: I noticed that you did not mention any photos of Trevor Lawrence, Etienne, Higggins, or Ross. Why is that?

TA: We do our best to stay within the rules and the NCAA explicitly prohibits the sale of products featuring current athletes.  Now, it is not illegal. It is just against NCA rules.  You can find pictures out there but not from an authorized site.  And, that hurts those of us who play by the rules.

GM:  Thanks Trent. Great stuff. Readers, if you stop by Allens’ Creations in Clemson, or visit their web site: ClemsonPrints.com – be sure to tell them you’ve seen their ads and articles. If you mention you saw this article on the Clemson Sports News, Trent says they’ll give you a free  2018 Clemson Football Schedule Coin with any purchase before the end of February.B
