Trevor Lawrence Embraces New Leadership Role

By: Darby Childress
Being in the spotlight is nothing new for Clemson’s starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. With that being said, Trevor has taken on a new stage and has grown into more of a leader than ever before, in his career at Clemson. When the nation stood and took a stand against racial inequality, Trevor stood with his teammates to say enough was enough. During today’s media conference Trevor stated “I think we all carry responsibility. For the love of my teammates and my family and everyone who is hurting during these times, it’s my job to spread love”. Stories of love and unity are what has come out of Clemson the past few months. Whether it was to stand with each other, in support of justice and equality during the March for Equality in June, or standing with their coach when he was facing mass scrutiny by the media, and more recently standing with players from all conferences in the push to allow the college football season happen this year, Trevor has been at the forefront using his platform and leadership status to promote positive change for everyone. “It’s things like making sure everyone is registered to vote and little things in the community. Its stuff everyone can rally around.” Learning from other’s experiences and pasts was a driving force in unifying everyone, “I think throughout this whole process I’ve even educated on somethings I didn’t know much about”. If change is to come “I think where you have to start is finding some common ground. We want to create situations where everyone can grow”.

On the football field, the junior has made strides in leading his offense during the practice season leading up to this week’s game against Wake Forest. When asked his opinion of his role on the team he said: “I think I’ve had to take more of a leadership role with the offensive line group”, and he is seeing positive results from his work sharing he is “really proud of how we’ve jelled

together during camp”. With the fall season quickly approaching, some fans have been worried about whether or not the team has had enough time to prepare, but Trevor has a lot of confidence in this years team stating “I think we are in a really good place”, “We have been getting ready, and now its time to put all our focus on football”.

Both on and off the field Trevor has proven he is a role model worth looking up to. Tiger fans can look forward to watching their leader take the field this weekend at 7:30 PM EST when they face off against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on ABC.
