Meet Central

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson track and field program will be represented at two meets this week, as the Tigers are set to compete at the FSU Relays and Raleigh Relays from March 25-26. Clemson’s distance group will make the trip to Raleigh, N.C., while the remaining contingent of Tigers will compete in Tallahassee, Fla.

The FSU Relays will welcome fans to the Mike Long Track Complex as it operates at 20 percent capacity this season. Spectators in Tallahassee will be asked to stay six feet from the fence line. No spectators will be permitted entry into this year’s Raleigh Relays.

Clemson will be well represented in Tallahassee as the Tigers have numerous entries across the two days of competition. After a weekend off from competition following the NCAA Indoor Championships, many of the athletes who took to the track in Fayetteville are slated to return to action this week.

Clemson’s throwers will look to continue their excellent form outdoors following a weekend that saw Zico Campbell, Veronica Fraley and Danielle Sloley all register top-10 all-time marks for Clemson during their respective shot put competitions. Fraley was also superb in the women’s discus competition during last week’s Tiger Track Classic, as she finished second overall with a toss of 52.00 meters (170 feet, 7 inches).

“This meet will have good competitors and we should be able to compete well,” added Clemson’s Director of Track & Field Mark Elliott. “Kameron [Jones] will make his debut for us in the 800m and a lot of our top athletes will be competing this weekend. It should be a good meet for us!”

Kameron Jones and Harleigh White are slated to return to competition this weekend after earning individual event victories in the men’s 400m and women’s triple jump, respectively, during last weekend’s competition in Auburn. Jones’s win came during his Clemson debut, while White’s win was just the second of her career.

Clemson will be joined in Tallahassee by Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Florida, South Florida and Tennessee.

Clemson’s distance crew will be out in full force at the Raleigh Relays, as 21 Tigers are entered into the meet. Cole Myers will be one of Clemson’s first athletes on the track, as the ACC indoor men’s 800m finalist is scheduled to race the 1,500m at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. John Ward will lead a pack of five Tigers in the opening section of the men’s 5,000m at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Thursday evening.

The Tigers will get Friday’s action going with a bang, as Clemson has four athletes entered in the women’s 1,500m. Later on in the evening, Josie Wirtz, Brianna Hartley and Lauren Hayes will represent Clemson in the 5,000m. Wirtz and Hayes were Clemson’s only two athletes to go under 10 minutes for the women’s 3,000m this past indoor season.

Five men will bring a close to Clemson’s action in Raleigh on Friday as they race the men’s 10,000m at 9:25 p.m. Colin Gallagher will make his Clemson debut by contesting the event, as the transfer from St. Joseph’s University will embark on his final season of outdoor eligibility with the Tigers in 2021. Gallagher is the only Clemson athlete entered for the 10,000m that has experience in the 25-lap race, as the senior carries a personal best into the meet of 33:19.81 from 2018.

“Our distance crew trained through last week and Coach Vicky [Pounds] has them ready to compete in their primary events up in Raleigh,” added Elliott. “We’re looking to run some conference marks this week!”
