Tigers Lose ACC Opener To Eagles in 11 Innings

Clemson and Boston College kicked off the 2019 ACC Baseball tournament in Durham, North Carolina on Tuesday morning. This is the first time t Tigers have faced off with the Eagles in a ACC Tournament game or at a neutral site. On the mound first for the Tigers was Travis Marr.

 

Clemson would get on the board first as Chad Fairey would cross home plate after Sam Hall turned a groundout into a double play as runners would be out at both second and first. Clemson would take an early 1-0 lead during the bottom of the second.

 

However, Boston College would strike back and put up two runs, a two run homer with two outs to lead 2-1 in the third inning. The Eagles would add to their lead in the top of the fourth, after another homerun.

 

Sam Weatherly would take over as pitcher in the top of the fourth after Marr would pitch 3.1 innings, giving up six hits, three runs, and striking out two.

 

Boston College would hit their third home run of the game in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead 4-1.

 

A Kyle Wilkie sac-fly would allow Clemson to get one more run on the board as the Tigers trailed 2-4 in the bottom of the sixth. Clemson had the opportunity to score with the bases loaded. However, Grayson Byrd flied out with the bases loaded.

 

A fourth home run from BC would come in the top of the eighth inning, a season high for the Eagles, as they would stretch their lead 5-2.

 

Sam Hall’s single up the middle gave Kyle Wilkie the opportunity to cut the lead by two. As the Eagles led 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

 

Clemson evened up the score, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Michael Greene’s single RBI was able to send two players home.

 

An error by Chad Fairey would cause Boston to bring in another run, giving them the 6-5 lead in the top of the 11th inning. Clemson would give up another run immediately after, loading the bases and extending the Eagles lead 7-5.

 

Boston College would hold on to defeat the Tigers 7-5. Clemson has the day off

tomorrow and will play Louisville Thursday at 11.
