With the announcement on Thursday night that starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, received a positive COVID-19 test, the D.J. Uiagalelei era at Clemson is set to begin. The talented 6’5 250 pound true freshman will receive his first collegiate start for the Tigers today against the Boston College Eagles.

As a senior in high school at St. John Bosco, Uiagalelei threw for 4,225 yards, 48 touchdowns and only two interceptions on the season. The California native also led his team to a National Championship, erasing a 23-point second half deficit in the California State Championship Game to win it.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney communicates near quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei(5) during the fourth quarter of the game with The Citadel Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, S.C.

So far this season, Clemson fans have only really seen the quarterbacks legs on a few designed quarterback run plays. The true freshman has opened eyes when he was given the chance to sling the ball, and is 12-for-19 on the season.

Fully expect to see DJ5 play like a “freshman” today, with maybe a few turnovers, but also expect him to dazzle and let the nation know that Clemson is in good hands once Trevor Lawrence heads to the pros.
