Makenna Morris Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – Makenna Morris led the Tigers to a top-25 road win and shutout of No. 23 Duke to earn ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

The honor marks the first of Morris’s career and third ACC Defensive Player of the Week selection for the Tigers in 2023 (Halle Mackewicz, Mackenzie Duff). Morris’s older sister Maliah Morris was twice named ACC Player of the Week in her career as a Tiger (2019, 2020).

Morris scored the Tigers’ lone goal in Durham on Friday night, propelling Clemson to a 1-0 win over the Blue Devils. The goal marked Morris’ seventh of the season and 16th of her Clemson career as the defender officially passed the 50 career points mark.

The Germantown, Md., native leads the team in goals this season and is tied for second on the club in assists.

Clemson returns to the pitch on Thursday, October 19, hosting Louisville. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. on ACCNX.
