Rowing Finishes 2023 Season at Lake Wheeler Invite

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers rowing team closed out their regular season Saturday, April 22 at the Lake Wheeler Invite. On the second day of the Invite, Clemson earned one second place finish, three fourth place finishes and one sixth place finish. This brought their total up to two second place finishes, three third place finishes, seven fourth place finishes, and two sixth place finishes.

Over the course of the three rounds, the Tigers totaled 19 points, resulting in a 10th place finish out of 19 teams. Clemson earned nine points in round one, seven points in round two, and three points in round three, making their total number of points at the regatta 19.

“We didn’t quite finish out the weekend like we wanted to as a program, but the good news is that we’ve got three weeks to work on our closing speed before ACC’s” said Head Coach Stephen Frazier Wong. “This year’s Championship should be one of the most competitive we’ve seen and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Joining Clemson at the Invite were the following schools: Oklahoma, Boston College, Miami, Washington St, Iowa, Tennessee, Navy, Alabama, UCF, North Carolina, Georgetown, Duke, Louisville, Boston, Syracuse, Boston College, Pennsylvania, and Kansas.

Due to anticipated bad weather, all of the round three races were moved up to earlier in the morning on Saturday. The Tigers started with the 1v8 at 7:38 a.m. where it finished fourth at a 6:46.090 time. Next, Clemson earned fourth in the 2v8 (7:06.192), sixth in the 1v4 (8:09.186) and fourth in the 2v4 (8:16.371). Clemson finished strong in the 3v8 with a 7:25.127 second place finish.

Next, Clemson will return to Lake Wheeler for the ACC Championship races on May 12 and 13.
