One on One with Nolan Turner

One on One with Nolan Turner

Redshirt sophomore Nolan Turner began his career as a special- teams contributor with the Tigers in 2017 and has earned a role on the defense this year. Turner’s late father, Kevin was a former teammate of Coach Swinney at Alabama and he also played eight years in the NFL with the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last season, Turner would rack up 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack of the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, Lamar Jackson and a pass breakup in 44 snaps over 14 games. This season, Turner has been accredited with two tackles in the season opener against Furman, a tackle against Georgia Southern and Georgia Teach, two tackles against Syracuse and a season-high of five tackles against Wake Forest.

Q – The NC State games in previous years have come down to the wire, what was it about this game that was so different for you guys?

Turner – I think just defensively we executed really well, we came out and let them continue drives on certain plays and got them off the field on third down and we made those plays that we might not have made in the past.

Q – You had a really good game against the Wolfpack. Can you talk about what it meant for you to be able to go out there and execute really well?

Turner – It was big and I needed a good game for a big confidence booster. I got to go out there and make a really big impact; I had a few tackles and I think a PBU. It was just really fun.

Q – What is the team mentality going into this matchup with Florida State?

Turner – I think that it’s going to be the same as with any game. We have got to have a real strong focus this week. Florida State is really talented, they have a great receiving core, running backs and a quarterback, who was in the Heisman race a couple years ago. They are the same talented team that they have been in the past and we have to go out there and execute really well against them
