CLEMSON, S.C. — Guinove Joanus’s outstanding performance on Saturday at the UofSC Open Meet in Columbia, S.C. earned him the ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week honor. He won both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash, setting personal bests in both events.
In the 100 meter dash, Joanus blew away the competition, running a 10.16 second time, a full .10 seconds better than the runner-up. His mark put him ninth on Clemson’s all-time leaderboard, and topped the group of 72 that participated in the event.
Later that same day, the sophomore dominated the 200 meter dash, finishing with a time of 20.37 seconds, besting the runner-up by .18 seconds and again pushing him into a Clemson top-10 list, this time the eighth slot. 20.37 stands as the 13th fastest time run in the NCAA this season.
Joanus’s recognition comes on the heels of Rojé Stona winning Men’s Field Performer of the Week last cycle following his school-record 64.98 meter discus throw. This is the first time this season that a Tiger has collected the recognition in back-to-back weeks.
Joanus and Clemson will be in action this weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. from Thursday, Apr. 28 through Saturday, Apr. 30. The Penn Relays are the penultimate meet before ACC Championships in Durham, N.C from May 12-14.
