James Skalski’s Insite on the 2020 Season
By: Darby Childress
Following practice Friday, August 7, linebacker James Skalski was available to answer some questions about the upcoming season. He stated that “When you are with your team all season the easiest thing is to build chemistry. So I think that’s been a challenge. We have had great meetings. I’ve been really happy with the strides we’ve taken. But I think it should all come together nicely” in regards to the challenges the team has faced.
There will be a lot of fresh faces on the field this season, and James offered us some insight as to how those new players are doing. “I think the rank speaks for itself. These guys are really talented.”
Strong leadership is something Clemson has always had. As one of those leaders, James has been given the difficult task this season of helping to encourage the team, as well as they are doing the right things to protect themselves, their teammates, and the people around them. He informed us that “If you’re a leader people follow. One thing we do around here is lead by example. Doing the right thing all the time and staying disciplined and not getting distracted”. He made it clear that there is more at stake for them on top of keeping themselves safe and healthy. They are “fighting for that season” off the field.
Right now many people are concerned about whether or not there will be a football season, and James made it clear that he’s “not too concerned about it. In my mind I’m out here one day at a time, preparing like we’re playing. So in my head, you can’t tell me we’re not playing because that’s my plan right now.”, “I’m just taking it one day at a time”. So as of now fans can release a long-held breath and be assured that the Clemson Tigers football team is prepared for the 2020 football season.
