Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team is set to return to the course as they make the short trek to compete in the Palmetto Spring Intercollegiate from Feb. 21-22. The event, which is hosted by College of Charleston, will be held at the 6,021-yard, par-72 Turtle Point Course located at the Kiawah Island Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The tournament marks the program’s first of two events held in the state of South Carolina as the Tigers are slated to host the Clemson Invitational from March 26-28 at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
Of the 10 team field, seven programs enter the Palmetto Intercollegiate with at least one spring tournament completed while NC State and Virginia lead the pack with two events already stored away in 2021.
After finishing eighth of 15 teams in the season-opening LTWF Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate in Sarasota, Fla., fifth-year head coach Kelley Hester looks to direct her squad to a top finish. The same lineup composed of Ivy Shepherd, Annabelle Pancake. Alexandra Swayne, Savannah Grewal, and Gracyn Burgess will headline the in-state competition.
Shepherd, the nation’s 36th ranked player according to Golfweek, led the Tigers the last time out after securing a top-15 finish. Shooting even par through the 54-hole event, the junior fired rounds of 72-70-74, moving her career total to 22 rounds at par or better. The Peachtree City, Ga. native, who had her score counted across all three days of the season-opening event, has now had her score counted in 46 of her 49 career rounds.
Savannah Grewal finished second among the Clemson squad at the season-opener after firing rounds of 74-74-73 for a five-over-par finish. In her first collegiate event, freshman Annabelle Pancake finished with a seven-over-par, 223 total score to finish 31st on the players leaderboard.
The tournament will kick off on Sunday morning as the field will tee off 36 continuous holes of play before concluding the event on Monday with 18 holes of action.
