CLEMSON — As July approaches and ACC Media Days on July 16 signals the unofficial opening of football season, Clemson’s 2027 recruiting class has already taken shape as one of the most important groups Dabo Swinney and staff have assembled in recent years.

The Tigers currently sit at 23 commitments, with a class built around speed, length, defensive versatility, offensive line depth, and a major late-spring surge that put Clemson back into the national recruiting conversation. But the class is not finished. Two names now sit at the center of the board: four-star safety/defensive back Jayden Aparicio-Bailey and fast-rising Georgia defensive back Seth Williams.

And both recruitments are coming down to Clemson and Georgia.

Jayden Aparicio-Bailey: CSN Pick — Clemson

Aparicio-Bailey is the one Clemson fans should feel best about right now.

The Prattville, Alabama standout checks in around 6-foot-2, 195 pounds and brings the kind of frame Clemson has been targeting in the secondary: long, physical, athletic, and position-flexible. Some services list him as a safety, but both Clemson and Georgia appear to value him as a defensive back who can play multiple roles.

This recruitment has felt like a Clemson-Georgia battle for weeks, but the Tigers have done everything they needed to do. Mike Reed’s work here has been strong. Clemson has sold opportunity, development, fit, and the chance to be part of a defensive back class that already has real pieces in place.

Georgia is Georgia. The Bulldogs are always dangerous, especially with defensive backs. But this one has the feel of Clemson being in front late.

Seth Williams: CSN Pick — True 50-50

Seth Williams is the tougher call.

The Lakeside High School defensive back out of Atlanta was once committed to Clemson, backed off that pledge, then saw his stock explode. He recently picked up his fourth star from 247Sports, and his recruitment has become a Clemson vs. Georgia fistfight.

Williams has the size Clemson wants at safety, listed around 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-3 depending on the service, with the length and ball skills that make him a major late-cycle priority. His recruitment has changed because Georgia got more involved, and proximity matters. Clemson had the early foundation, Georgia has made the late push.

This is no longer a “Clemson has him if they want him” situation. This is a coin flip.

Clemson’s edge is the long-term relationship and the fact that Williams already saw enough in the Tigers once to commit. Georgia’s edge is the hometown-state pull, recent momentum, and the Bulldogs’ defensive reputation.

CSN call: 50-50. No strong pick today. If forced, this one feels like a final-week gut-check between comfort with Clemson and the late Georgia surge.

That matters.

Clemson’s best teams were built from the inside out. This 2027 group has that kind of early DNA.

Offensive Breakdown

The offense starts with Kharim Hughley, the quarterback commitment who gives Clemson a true foundation piece. He is not just a number in the class. He is the kind of player who can help recruit around him.

At running back, Gary Walker is one of the biggest wins in the class. He brings size, speed, and the kind of complete back profile Clemson needed.

Receiver is one of the strengths. Jamarin Simmons is the headliner and one of the highest-rated players in the group. Trey Wimbley gives Clemson an in-state weapon from D.W. Daniel, and Julian Cromartie adds size and physicality from Texas.

Tight end is covered with Carter Blackwell and Nicholas Pollack, two bigger-bodied prospects who fit Clemson’s traditional mold.

The offensive line is where the class may quietly make its biggest long-term impact. Luke Starcevic, JJ Brown, Carter Jones, and Elijah Morrison give Clemson four big bodies with developmental upside. That is how you rebuild depth and competition in the trenches.

Defensive Breakdown

Defensively, Clemson has gone after length, edge pressure, and backend versatility.

Desmond Malpress is one of the top defensive wins in the class. Santana Harvey, Jaden Wuerth, JiQuan Rogers, and RJ Hudson give Clemson multiple front-seven options who can grow into different roles.

At linebacker, Bryce Kish and Max Brown give the Tigers size and physicality.

In the secondary, Jarrell Chandler, Harrison Luke, Bryant Robinson, and Christian Chancellor Jr. are already on board. Add Aparicio-Bailey, and suddenly the defensive back class looks much stronger. Add Williams too, and Clemson may have one of the better DB hauls in the country.

That is why these next two decisions matter so much.

What Is Left?

Clemson is not done, but the board is tightening.

The biggest remaining priority is the secondary. Aparicio-Bailey and Williams are the two names that could change the national perception of this class. Landing one would be big. Landing both would be a statement.

The Tigers may also continue to monitor elite defensive line, another offensive playmaker, and any late-rising in-state or regional prospects who fit Clemson’s culture and evaluation model.

But this class is already close to full. Clemson is no longer trying to build the foundation. The foundation is built. Now it is about finishing with impact players.

Bottom Line

Clemson’s 2027 class has momentum, volume, balance, and real star power. The Tigers have 23 commitments, sit near the national top 10-15 range depending on the service, and have positioned themselves for a strong summer finish.

The next two names tell the story.

Jayden Aparicio-Bailey feels like a Clemson lean.

Seth Williams feels like a true Clemson-Georgia coin flip.
