CLEMSON TO THE SEC…. Could it Be?

Clemson in the SEC

Well, for years, all you heard from SEC schools, one in particular, that “Clemson couldn’t handle an SEC schedule every week.” Cupcake conference. Etc. Etc.

If the Tigers move to the SEC, trust me, you heard it here first. Clemson will roll.

In the past, prospects would have Clemson in their Top 5 before eventually wanting to “play in the SEC”. That advantage will no longer hold water.

Clemson has for a decade plus Scheduled a SEC team at season’s outset to tandem with the SC rivalry

The elephant in the room is money. In 2022, projected payouts in the B1G and the SEC tops $50million per school. The ACC? A little over $30million. This has been the case over the past 10 years or so, and people wonder why these two conferences are better overall than the rest of college football.

Put quite simply, the advantages the SEC has had over Clemson in the past would no longer be an issue; money and the prestige of playing in the SEC. What will happen to the rest of the ACC? Time will tell this story, but as an old-timer that doesn’t like change, it feels like college football is going down the wrong path. NIL, transfer portal, realignment, pay-to-play. It’s like the NCAA has lost its grip.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is a nonprofit organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 American, Canadian, and Puerto Rican schools. There appears to be NO regulating going on, it has become a free-for-all. Clemson to the SEC. What’s next?

  • I think it is wrong to cave in to the SEC. The ugliest people to Clemson on social media are SEC Supporters. I will stand them for the playoffs but a weekly assault negative rhetoric will erode the most die hard fans over time. Ethics matter.

  • I always like to disprove SEC expectations. However, I think it would be fine. The players will rise to the challenge and recruiting will be more based on culture of the program……not who can slick talk the next 4 or 5 star.. The playing field will be equalized. Just my thoughts. Go Tigers!
