Clemson Takes out #11 Coastal at the Doug

Clemson, SC

Wednesday brought the 11th ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers into Clemson. Freshman, Jackson Lindley took to the bump as the Tiger’s starting pitcher for his second start of the season. The Tigers switched up the starting lineup for the game, including freshman James Parker who made his first career start for the Tigers and Jordan Greene, who is seen normally at second base made his second career start in the outfield.

Though CCU would strike first, Logan Davidson would hit a two-run homer during the bottom of the second inning that would send Sam Hall and himself home for a 2-1 Tiger lead.

Freshman Adam Hackenburg would add to the Tigers lead in the bottom of the 1st. Hackenburg would send the ball soaring for three players to come across home.

“What a great game” Head Coach Monte Lee said postgame. “ Give our offense a lot of credit for swinging the bat as well as we did tonight. Obviously, we got off to a great start in the first inning. We had a bunch of really good at bats in a row that was capped off by Hackenburg’s homerun and we score 6 in the first. But their offense was obviously very very good and they answer right back.”

“To me, the biggest difference in the game is when we went to Owen Griffith.” Lee said “Owen deserves a lot of credit with our win tonight because he settled everything down when he came in and threw as well as he possibly could have and he deserves an awful lot of credit.” The win went to Griffith for pitching relief. Griffith allowed three hits, one unearned run, one walk and six strikeouts with 3.0 innings pitched.

“My changeup and slider were working really well tonight.” said Griffith “They are pitches that I have been recently working on because I am usually just a fastball, curveball kind of guy. I felt good throwing these pitches, I felt like I threw them for strikes. So those were the two pitches that worked well for me.”

Davidson, who went a few games without a homerun earned his sixth of the season during the game was asked if he was swinging the bat with a bit more confidence said “ I guess confidence is one way to put. I think it has a lot to do with approach and what I am trying to do with the bat, just trying to keep it really simple and just hit a ground ball through where the defense is not. So that approach had turned into and I just turned it into a homerun.” Davidson said.

Friday, Clemson begins a weekend series with Notre Dame beginning at 6 p.m.
