Clemson set to play No. 2 Syracuse in last home game of regular season
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (9-5, 2-5 ACC) are set to play the No. 2 Syracuse Orange (11-3, 7-0 ACC) on Saturday, April 13 at 12:00 p.m. in their last home game of the regular season. After Saturday’s game, the 12 graduating seniors, Ella Little, Sara Palmisano, Bella Karstien, Ariana Kline, Nakeeya McCardell, Bella D’Gracia, Kerri Thornton, Shannon Brazier, Emma Tilson, Hanna Hilcoff, Krissy Kowalski and Claire Bockstie, will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony. The Tigers are coming off of a 16-4 loss at Boston College, making them No. 7 in the ACC. Claire Bockstie, Emma Tilson, Kayla Macleod and Jasmine Stanton made up the four goal scorers in Boston. Bockstie’s goal marked the 200th of her career. Notably, Bockstie is a current active career leader as she ranks as No. 9 in points per game, goals per game and total goals. Krissy Kowalski had a good performance in goal as she recorded a season high of nine saves on a 0.563 save percentage.
The Orange are currently riding an eight game winning streak, having won all seven games against ACC opponents, with their most recent win being a 16-7 victory over Pitt on Saturday, April 6. Syracuse’s offense is nationally recognized as No. 8 in scoring offense and No. 9 in shot percentage.
When Clemson played Syracuse last year for the first time in program history, the Orange came out on top with a 19-10 victory in New York. Hanna Hilcoff, Gianna New, Chloe Willard and Miya Scanlan led all scorers with each notching two goals, as six different Tigers found the back of the net. Despite pulling the game to within three, Clemson was unable to catch up enough to find the win.
Clemson comes into the game with a higher draw control percentage, ground balls per game average, saves percentage and clears percentage. Meanwhile, Syracuse has a higher average for goals per game and shot percentage. A win against Syracuse Saturday would be Clemson’s highest ranked win in program history.
