Clemson Ranked 5th in First CFB Playoff Poll

Clemson came into the 2019 season the defending National Champions and riding a 15 game winning streak. As of the first week of November nothing has changed except the Tigers have ascended from their pre season top ranking to now debut in week one of the CFB playoff poll in the 5th spot. A team that still remains undefeated and riding a now 24 game winning streak that. So why has Clemson slipped in the eyes of the national pundits and now the CFB playoff committee’s eyes?

Following the initial release of the 2019 Playoff poll the committee chairman spoke on why the committee dropped the defending champions to the 5th spot behind Penn St. Using the following reasoning as per his own words to base their decision on. CFP chairman Rob Mullens was asked by ESPN host Rece Davis why Penn State was ranked ahead of Clemson.

“Penn State has two very good wins over Michigan and at Iowa, and they’ve been very consistent, holding 7 of 8 opponents under 13 points, “Mullen’s said. “Clemson is coming on and playing their best football, but I think after Week 10, the committee thought the Penn State was a notch above.”

The Tigers head to Raleigh this week to face a NCST squad that is in a transition year roster wise and dealing with a multitude of injuries. A game that the Tigers are rolling into Carter-Finley Stadium already 33-34 point favorites. After this latest shot at the Clemson ego, expect this game Saturday to be a Harbinger of things to come. As the Tigers will plan on leaving no doubt the ROY Bus is back on the Highway to the CFB Playoffs to prove the pundits wrong.
