Clemson Finishes Fourth, Two Tigers Earn Top-10 Finishes
Clemson, S.C. – Moving up two spots as a group, the Clemson women’s golf team wrapped up play at The Clover Cup, finishing in fourth place. Ivy Shepherd and Annabelle Pancake both secured top-10 finishes on the players leaderboard.
Host Arizona State came out victorious as both a team and on the individual side, firing a 54-hole total of 848 (16-under) as a team. The Sun Devils’ Linn Grant and Olivia Meheffey earned the top two positions as individuals at scores of nine and eight-under-par, respectively. Mehaffey surged to the top of the leaderboard after a final round 10-under, 62.
Clemson boasted rounds of 299-289-281 for a final team score of 869, the Tigers sat two strokes back on the third place UNLV squad, while Arizona State and Arizona remained the only teams at the under-par mark as a unit. The 869 team score for Head Coach Kelley Hester’s team was the best 54-hole score through Clemson’s four spring events.
Ivy Shepherd fired rounds of 69-68 before a final round 72 gave her a tie for third finish alongside Vivian Hou of Arizona. The third place is the highest finish of the junior’s career after previously securing 5th, 6th, and 9th positions. Her 209 tournament score also bested her previous best career total of 210.
Pancake wasted no time inking her name into the Clemson record books as she tied the program’s low score with a final round 65 while matching the program’s low round vs. par mark at seven-under-par. As just a freshman, she became the fourth player in program history to record a 65 in any round, joining Alice Hewson, Ana Paula Valdes, and current teammate Ivy Shepherd – Hewson and Shepherd have both achieved the mark twice.
Her final round 65 at The Clover Cup was highlighted by a blemish-free front nine accompanied by eight total birdies on the day. Pushing her total to 15 through the tournament, the Zionsville, Ind. native concluded the event one birdie behind Shepherd and two behind Olivia Mehaffey of Arizona State. Pancake finished the tournament in a tie for ninth – her second top-10 victory of her career after picking up her first in the Tigers’ last matchup.
Savannah Grewal, Callista Rice, and Gracyn Burgess (individual), all shot even-par in the final round of the competition. Lindsay May wrapped up play with a 14-over tournament total after a final round five-over, 77.
