Clemson Falls to Nebraska 68-66

 Clemson, SC

The first half saw the Tiger run out to a quick 8-2 lead … only to see the Huskers come back and bring it all back to even.  Soon after they were able to over take the Tigers and gain a 4 point advantage around the 3 minute mark.   Clyde Trapp then hits a jumper to cut it to two.  The defense stiffens at the other end and the Tigers are able to tie it back up on a David Skara jumper outside the lane.

The Huskers and Tigers go into the break all tied up at 31.  Clyde Trapp led the Tigers in the first half with 8 points.

HALFTIME STATS:

Second Half starts all knotted up at 31.  But the Huskers manage to affect the lane and score inside and move out to a 42-37 lead only to see the Tigers come back in two trips up the court and cut the lead to 1.  The Huskers at about the 14 minute mark nail a “3” and move the lead back up to 4 at 45-41 with 13:45 left

The play of Marquise Reed specifically with his constant penetration has kept the Tigers in striking distance.  The Huskers behind the solid inside and outside play of James Palmer have managed to hold on to a 2 point lead with 9:38 left following a couple Elijah Thomas free throws.  That fired up the crowd inside of Littlejohn on the defensive end.  Great penetration by the Huskers again to send the Big Ten team up by 4.

With 5:51 left in the game the Tigers and Coach Brownell call a timeout to see if they can figure out how to keep James Palmer out of the lane and from penetrating to the basket. As he has a game high 16 points.

The Tigers cant seem to get the baskets to fall. Meanwhile Nebraska can’t miss and with 2:17 and another timeout, the Tigers are trailing the Huskers by 8 after Nebraska nails a “3” from deep in the corner to make it 64-56.

Off the break Reed hits a three and the Tigers hold on the defensive end to bring it down to a 2 point game. But on the ensuing trip down the floor the Reed is called for a travel.  The Cornuskers take possession with the lead and 9.4 seconds on the clock. Tigers then have to resort to putting the Huskers on the foul line and that is how it ends. After a late charge that fell just short. The Tigers lose to the Huskers 68-66.
