Clemson Corner Andrew Booth Discusses UVa Game…Says Interception is “Confidence Booster”

Clemson Cornerback Says Interception is “Confidence Booster”

If you watched the Clemson Tigers 43-21 win over the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday night, you might have thought you saw Odell Beckham Jr. make an incredible one-handed interception in the corner of the endzone at the start of the third quarter. No, that was not the man who made one-handed catches “cool”, that was cornerback Andrew Booth.

Booth made the spectacular one-handed catch on Virginia’s first drive after halftime. With the Tigers leading 24-10, the Cavaliers marched down the field after the intermission and completed a 31-yard pass play down the sideline to wide receiver Lavel Davis Jr. The next play, Cavalier quarterback Brandon Armstrong looked to the endzone to Davis Jr, but Andrew Booth had different plans for the two.

“I’ve been trying to keep my confidence up. It’s been a battle of me versus me. That (interception) is definitely a confidence booster. I definitely needed that.” Booth Jr. said after the game when asked about his interception.

After a subpar freshman season, Booth is filling in nicely as a sophomore in the cornerback spot after the Tigers lost A.J. Terell to the NFL Draft last April. Through three games, Booth Jr. has made five tackles, one less than he had in the entire 2019 season, and three pass breakups. The interception that ended up on SportsCenters Top-10 list last night was his first career collegiate interception.

The former five-star recruit will now have the challenge of covering Miami’s speedsters on the outside of the field. Clemson will host the Hurricanes at Death Valley for the first time since 2010 on Saturday at 7:30 pm on ABC.
