Clemson picked up their 7th commitment today with 4-star Sherrod Covil of Chesapeake, Virginia, announcing for the Tigers on his twitter page.Covil becomes a big piece to this 2022 class for the Tigers. He had 42 offers, headed by Miami, Penn State, Notre Dame, Alabama and many others. Covil had narrowed down his choices to the Tigers, Miami, UNC and Notre Dame. This is a great get for the Tiger defense.
Covil, 6-0 190, is literally a tackling machine and seeks out ball carriers and receives like a heat seeking missile. He punishes you and leaves his mark when he hits you. Covil definitely has the size and length to play centerfield in the Clemson secondary.
“Sherrod Covil is a really good tackler and hitter, and a skilled athlete. He is “scheme versatile” with a linebacker mentality. Has good safety cover skills,” said Tom Luginbill, National Recruiting Director, CFB Analyst, ESPN/ABC.
Currently ranked as the #11 safety in the country in the 2022 class, expect this hard hitting safety to move up that chart as he plays his senior year for Oscar Smith High School. He joins four other 4-stars in the Clemson class, and this is not counting kicker Robert Gunn III. The Tigers also picked up a PWO commitment from offensive lineman Mason Johnstone earlier this week.
It’s a good day to be a Tiger.
