Another Clemson Championship

Charlotte, NC

Clemson came into Saturday’s contest looking for a fourth consecutive ACC Title and another birth in the College Football Playoffs.  After Saturday nights 42-10 dismantling of Pittsburgh in front of a rain-soaked crowd in Charlotte.  The Tigers now await the Sunday selection of the “Final Four” of the College Football playoff to know who the Clemson opponent will be.  And of course, will it be Dallas, TX or Miami, Fl when it comes to where the Tigers will play. Clemson’s football team and fan base will all be anxiously watching on Sunday.

But on this Saturday night, the game was never in doubt as the Tigers scored on the opening play after Travis Etienne scampered 75 yards to put Clemson up 7-0 and it was never in doubt from that point.  Pitt managed to scape and scrap and score 10 points on the night.  But could not sustain a drive of any substance the entire evening. They did manage a touchdown in the first half after taking over on the Clemson 37 yard line due to a shanked punt.  But the Clemson defense stiffened from that point forward and did not allow the Panthers back into scoring position.  Holding the Panthers to an ACC record of only 8 passing yards.

Meanwhile, the Clemson offense managed to churn out 301 rushing yards with half of those coming via Etienne who had two scores on the night.  Adam Choice and Lynn J Dixon would also add rushing scored in the contest.  And Trevor Lawrence would find Tee Higgins twice for touchdowns.  The Clemson offense had a case of the sputters in both halves.  But the turf inside Bank of America stadium did affect the play calling and execution at times. While not as efficient as they have been in the past few games leading up to the contest with Pitt.  The Tigers still managed to score 6 times and finished the ACC schedule 9-0 and ACC CHAMPIONS 2018.

Travis Etienne won MVP.  This Clemson senior class has now 53 wins, 4 ACC Titles, 4 Trips to the College Football Playoff to add to their still building resume and legacy at Clemson.  Coach Dabo Swinney took yet another ACC Trophy home to place on the mantle back in Clemson. “Another Clemson Championship”.
