CJ Spiller Joining Clemson Football Staff

Head Coach Dabo Swinney announced Tuesday that Clemson legend, CJ Spiller, will be joining the Clemson football staff. Spiller approached Swinney earlier this week, saying that he wanted to get into coaching, and of course, Swinney was happy to have him as an addition to the staff. Spiller will be an unpaid grad intern while he focuses on completing his Masters at the school. Swinney explained, “He’s going to get his Master’s in athletic leadership, and we’re just excited about having that guy.”

Spiller will be working in the running backs room where he will be able to contribute his knowledge of the game to players. The running backs are in good hands learning from ACC Player of the Year in 2009 and the ninth overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills.

Spiller will be helping one of Clemson footballs best, Travis Etienne. Spiller spoke about Etienne to the media on Monday, saying, “First of all, he’s a great individual, great person, has his head in the right place. And then just a student of the game. He understands how defenses try to play him. And he uses that to his advantage. And he’s a very unique running back, honestly. I was actually telling Coach Swinney yesterday that normally you have a fast guy, and you have a power guy like James Davis.”

Additionally, Spiller will work with Lyn-J Dixon, Darien Rencher, Chez Mellusi, Michel Dukes, Demarkcus Bowman, and Kobe Pace. Spiller is an excellent addition to the staff and should add a lot more knowledge to the already powerful running back room.
