Tigers Wrap Up Competition at NCAA Columbus Regional in 10th Place
Columbus, Ohio – Led by a final-round, even-par 72 from Savannah Grewal, the Clemson women’s golf team closed out play at the NCAA Columbus Regional hosted by Ohio State on The Ohio State University Golf Club – Scarlet Course. The 54-hole NCAA Regional site took the top six teams and three individuals following stroke play competition to advance to the NCAA Nationals being held at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. from May 21-26.
Georgia, Duke, Arizona State, Kentucky, Michigan, and Kent State stayed above the cut line to book their ticket to the national tournament while the top three individuals not from a qualifying team advanced. The Bulldogs and Sun Devils were the only teams to finish the final round at even par, however, no team across the 18 team field finished at even-par or better through the entirety of the event.
Ivy Shepherd was the low finisher for the Tiger squad, capping off her 73-74 opening rounds with a final round 75 to bring her 54-hole tournament total to 222 (+6) to finish tied for 22nd among the field. She played the best among the team on Par 5s, playing two-under on those holes while also ranking third across all competitors with 39 pars.
Finishing the tournament just behind Shepherd, Alexandra Swayne fired a final round 74 to close out the event tied for 24th at 223. With nine birdies throughout the tournament, three of which came in the final round, Swayne had the most birdies among the team.
Tying the Tigers’ best round of the tournament, Grewal knocked seven shots off her opening-round score and three shots off her second round with a final round 72 to finish the event at 226 (+10). The Mississauga, Ontario native played her first nine holes of the day bogey-free at one-under before bogeys on the first and second holes and a birdie on the sixth pulled her back even. She finished the three-day event second across the field with 40 total pars, one behind Candice Mahe of Georgia.
After both Annabelle Pancake and Callista Rice recorded back-to-back opening rounds of 77, Pancake closed out the event with a final round 76 while Rice wrapped up play with an 80.
