A 19-5 Second Half Run Seals 85-71 Clemson Victory Over Stanford
Tigers total 16 steals – most since 1/1/13 in win
CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball totaled 16 steals – the most in a game since producing 16 vs. The Citadel on Jan. 1, 2013 and defeated Stanford 85-71 behind a 19-5 second half run on Wednesday afternoon in Littlejohn Coliseum. Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) led all scorers with 22 points.
Chauncey Wiggins (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) finished with a season-high 17 points, tying his career-high with four made 3-pointers. Wiggins pulled down five rebounds and posted one block in the effort.
The Tigers (11-3, 3-0 ACC) were sparked by a 19-5 run in the second half that spanned nearly five minutes. With the score tied 52-52, the Tigers’ run was ignited by an Ian Schieffelin (Atlanta, Ga./Grayson) layup and by the end they would lead 71-57 en route to the win.
Ten of Clemson’s 16 steals were produced by Dillon Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) (6) and Jaeden Zackery (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central/Boston College) (4). The six for Hunter marked a new career-high and also tied for the most in a game by a Tiger since Avry Holmes had six on Feb. 13, 2016 against Georgia Tech.
Zackery also added six assists to go with 16 points to help lead the Tigers offensively. Viktor Lakhin (Anapa, Russia/CSKA-2/Cincinnati) turned in a stellar effort and posted 11 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and three steals.
Clemson forced 17 Stanford turnovers in the afternoon. The Tigers forced 19 against Wake Forest on Dec. 21. With 36 turnovers forced in back-to-back games, Clemson has turned those into 60 combined points.
Clemson finished 21-for-24 at the foul line in the game.
The Tigers return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 4 when they host California at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
