This upcoming Saturday, October 15, the Clemson Tigers will face off against their ACC Atlantic Division rival, the Florida State Seminoles, in Tallahassee,Fl on the field of Doak Cambell Stadium.
This particular rivalry is quite different than most. It isn’t based on geography, but, instead, it is based on success. From 2009-2019, whoever won the Clemson and Florida State game would go on to play in the ACC Championship game. The two teams also combined for three national championships and five total title game appearances in these years.
Since the College Football Playoff was implemented in 2014, there has only been one season in which the playoffs didn’t involve either Clemson or FSU. In 24 of the 34 total matchups between the two teams, the winner has been ranked in the Top 25, and 20 of those times, the winner was ranked in the Top 10.
Year after year, this game has had major conference and national implications. This year is no different, Clemson will be traveling to Tallahassee ranked as the number 4 team in the country, and Florida State would love nothing more than to spoil the Tigers’ perfect season. This might be a tall task for the Seminoles because in recent years, Clemson has dominated FSU, winning each of the last six meetings.
However, currently, Florida State leads the all time series 20-14, so Clemson will once again be trying to cut into that margin. The game should be a good one since both teams have been in conversations concerning the top teams in the country. You can catch the Seminoles take on the Tigers this Saturday at 7:30 on ABC.
