Tigers take out Bulldogs 10-2

After avoiding a weekend sweep versus Georgia Tech, the Tigers were back at home for a two-game series vs Gardner Webb. The Tigers, however, would be without Head Coach Monte Lee and pitchers Holt Jones and Sam Weatherly. The pitchers were ejected in the eighth and ninth innings following a warning that was issued by the umpire in the fifth inning. Per NCAA rule: The pitchers will serve a four game suspension and Lee will serve a one game suspension.

Taking to the mound was Freshman Davis Sharpe.

Clemson got things going in the first inning fairly quickly, Kyle Wilkie would hit a two run homer that would bounce off the bottom of the foul pole to put the Tigers ahead 2-0. That home run was Wilkies third on the season.

Clemson would put seven runs up on the board in the bottom of the fifth including seven RBI’s and a three-run homer by Logan Davidson.

Ben LaSpaluto would get the Bulldogs on the board in the 6th inning with a solo homerun.

Davis Sharpe would retire after 5.2 innings, allowing three hits and one run.

Gardner Webb would bring in another run after a hit by pitch to bring the score to 9-2 in the top of the sixth.

Chad Fairey knocked in an RBI for his first career hit adding a run to the Tigers score. The Tigers would extend their lead 10-2.

Clemson would hold on to defeat the Bulldogs 10-2 and will face them tomorrow in Game two. Game two will begin with a 2 p.m. first pitch in Shelby. The Tigers will be back home Tuesday and Wednesday against Presbyterian College and the Citadel.
