T&F: Rhoden Wins Performer of the Week, Men’s Team Enters Top-25

CLEMSON, S.C. – Tarees Rhoden was named this week’s ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. Rhoden’s 1:48.80 800 meter performance at the Florida Relays this past weekend earned him the recognition.

The junior out of Kingston, Jamaica won the ACC Indoor 800 meter championship in late February and is carrying that momentum into the outdoor campaign. His 1:48.80 time snuck him into Clemson’s all-time top-10 list for the outdoor event. It is also the 10th fastest mark in the NCAA this season and the second-fastest mark by an ACC athlete.

Rhoden is one of many Tigers who had standout performances this week, as the men’s track and field team jumped to 17th in the most recent USTFCCCA rankings. Just three meets into the season, Clemson is beginning to hit mid-season form and will look to continue the upward trend this upcoming weekend at the Tennessee Relays.

Program Director Mark Elliott voiced his optimism and pride for both Rhoden and the team at large, stating, “Congratulations to Tarees. It is good to see that working hard does pay off. The men’s team continues to make steady progress and ranking in the top-25 nationally goes to show how our student athletes are performing at their highest level.”

The women’s team is improving by the week as well, sporting the No. 6 ranked 400 meter hurdle group, No. 8 400 meter group and No. 23 ranked 100 meter dash group. The men’s 100 meter dashers are ranked ninth nationally.
