AUSTIN, Texas – The Clemson Tigers wrapped up the second day of Texas Relays as Ethan Cocco improved the school record in the men’s javelin and Aleksandra Stoilova set the new all-conditions school record in the women’s 100 meter. The Tigers also secured a first-place finish in the women’s sprint medley.
With a wind-aided time of 11.15 (+2.5), Stoilova ran the fastest time in school history in the women’s 100 meters. The sophomore now holds the all-conditions program record in the event.
In the men’s javelin, Ethan Cocco, who already held the program record with a mark of 70.64, improved the all-time best and threw a PB of 71.42. The throw secured him a third-place overall finish in the event.
In the women’s sprint medley, the Clemson team of Stoilova, Antoinette Van Der Merwe, Ken’Naria Gadson and Gladys Chepngetich were first to cross the line with a time of 3:44.40 to become the SMR championships in Austin.
Four Tigers qualified for the finals in their respective events as Clemson is set to be represented in the men’s and women’s 100 meters and 100 meter hurdles.
With her record-setting time in the 100 meters, Stoilova advanced to Saturday’s finals. On the men’s side, Cameron Rose’s wind-aided time of 10.15 earned him a spot in the finals in the 100 meters. In the women’s 100 meter hurdles, both Van Der Merwe and Oneka Wilson earned qualifying marks for finals as Van Der Merwe secured the automatic-qualifier for finishing first in her heat.
Both Tigers also added their names on Clemson’s all-time list in the event as Van Der Merwe improved her No. 9 mark to 13.17 and Wilson secured the No. 10 spot with 13.20. Both times mark personal bests for the Tigers.
The Tigers will prepare to compete in the final day of Texas Relays on Saturday, March 30 with the first event slated for 10 a.m with the women’s discus.
