Tigers Secure First ACC Victory Over Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, Va. — Clemson (7-12, 1-8 ACC) earned its first ACC victory in a 6-1 win over Virginia Tech (4-11, 0-8 ACC) on Sunday afternoon. The win snaps a six-match losing skid for the Tigers and marks the first conference victory for first-year Head Coach Christy Lynch.

The Tigers fell behind early in doubles but quickly took control as Eleni Louka and Jenna Thompson rallied to win five-straight games to defeat No. 58 Elizabet Danailova/Nika Kozar, 6-3. At line three, Ali DeSpain and Laura Marti clinched the point for Clemson with a 6-3 victory.

Clemson then tallied three straight singles wins to claim the match starting with Louka who took No. 1, 6-1, 6-4. DeSpain followed closely behind with a 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 4. At line six, Lana Sipek sealed the Tiger victory, winning 7-5, 6-1. Additionally, Mackenzy Middlbrooks and Jenna Thompson picked up 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victories, respectively.
