Blink, the Season is 2/3 over and Wofford Comes to Town Every summer, Clemson fans sit around watching the Tigers play baseball, but at the same time, chomping at the bit for football season to start. The HIGH expectations that Coach Dabo Swinney has levied on his team visually dance through the heads of Clemson fans for several months. August arrives, fall practice begins, you blink your eyes and boom!

Clemson is 8-0 and in the hunt for another Championship and you wonder…..man, this season went by fast. At this point, a lot of fans will simply spend the week before the next game rewatching several games already played in anticipation of the next Tiger victory. In this week’s case, poor little ole Wofford comes to town to face the ultimate football machine. Nowadays, non-Clemson fans will ask Clemson fans “You gonna win on Saturday?” My answer is always the same. “Of course we are going to win, that’s not the question. It’s by how much is the real question.” Poor little ole Wofford.

The Wofford Terriers are currently 5-2 and on a 5-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 229-104. The terriers are coming off a hard fought OT victory over Tennessee-Chattoonaga. Wofford is led by Senior QB Joe Newman, who has 794 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing while passing for 674 yards and 5 more TDs. He has thrown only 4 interceptions. As a team, Wofford averages 361 yards a game on the ground, and 104 through air. Coach Brent Venables is without question one of the best if not THE best defensive coordinator in the game. He already knows this team is one dimensional. Clemson has the clear edge in every aspect of the game, and more than likely, this game will be another Charlotte-type game where Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the first unit, especially on offense, will be taking a seat midway through the 2nd quarter.

The Tiger offense is solidly on track, outscoring their last three opponents 149-31, and this Wofford team will more than likely not get on the board unless it’s a field goal. Lawrence will throw for less than 200 yards, Travis Etienne will run for 100+, the leading receiver will either be Frank Ladson or Joe Ngata, and the defense will have few sacks and a lot of tackles for loss. This is a game where the 2nd and 3rd units will see most of the action if not all in the 2nd half. This game will not even be close. Poor little ole Wofford.
