The linebacker position has been the key element to past Clemson defenses. That’s not going to change just because Brent Venables left for Oklahoma. New DC Wes Goodwin is a top notch linebacker coach and will continue the trend of top notch players at that position. While the Tigers have already offered 11 prospects at linebacker, there is a 5-star 2024 linebacker that is high on his list. He is visiting Clemson this weekend.
Sammy Brown, 6-2 215, out of Jefferson, Georgia, is ranked as the #1 linebacker in the 2024 class and the #2 player in the state. His offer sheet reads like a who’s who of college football, to include Georgia, Ohio State, Auburn and others.
Although he only played in 6.5 games this year due to injury, you can tell he is ready to explode. As a running back, he accounted for 753 yards on 58 carries (13.0 YPC) and 11 touchdowns. On defense, he had 35 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. Which side of the ball does he prefer?
CSN caught up with Sammy after he departed Tiger Town and he had the following to say about the visit.
CSN: Tell us how it feels to get the Clemson offer?
SB: It’s super exciting but shocking at the same time. I was not expecting to get it at all, so for it to come at this time is super exciting and definitely a good one.
CSN: What is the main criteria you have in your mind for the school you want to play and attend… academically what are you seeking? and what type of atmosphere on campus?
SB: I want to major in pediatric so definitely a school that can at least get me on the right track for that. But also a school that takes as much pride in the classroom as the do on the field
CSN: what is the biggest factor in your choice for a team and development you are seeking?
SB: Something that I’m really looking for hard in program is culture. A programs culture is not only going to benefit things on the field but off the field too. A good culture is going to lead to great leadership and great coaches which will lead to helping me become a better person of society
CSN: What player either College or NFL would you say is in influence on your game?
SB: Both of the Clemson linebackers have really helped me in the past couple years but overall definitely players like Ray Lewis and Micah Parson and people like that. People that fly around the field and knock the crap out of someone.
CSN: What will a Sammy Brown bring to campus wherever he commits….what type of player, student and person will that school get.
SB: Personally I consider myself a very upbeat happy person that’s gonna bring the energy whether it be on the field or in the classroom. I want to see my peers around me succeed as much as I do. On the field i’m gonna fly to the hall and hit somebody. Fast and Physical are two good words to describe my game. Off the field I can be a great friend to anyone and everyone.
CSN: what was the message from Coach Swinney when you had a chance to speak with him
SB: His message was just to keep working and keep getting better in highschool. There’s no reason to think about college decisions right now and to just focus on highschool till the time comes.
