Morris Recognized as ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Clemson, S.C. – Freshman forward Maliah Morris was announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference office on Tuesday as the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week alongside Louisville’s Emina Ekic. Virginia Tech’s Mandy McGlynn would take home the ACC Defensive Player of the Week nod.
The Germantown, Maryland native and former two-time DC Gatorade Player of the Year made one of the biggest plays of her young career after finding the back of the net in the 44th minute to topple in-state rival No. 7 South Carolina 1-0 at Historic Riggs Field. In addition to Morris’ game-winning goal, she boasted a perfect shots-on-goal percentage against the nationally-ranked opponent.
Seven games into the season, Morris has tallied two goals and two assists to bring her season point total to six while also leading the team in shots with 23. With Morris’ conference honor, she becomes the second Clemson player to be honored as a player of the week this season and the second freshman to be dubbed with the recognition on the year, the first as an offensive player.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. as they host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
