Clemson Lacrosse to Host Wofford in Inaugural Season Opener
The Clemson Tigers are set to kickoff their historic inaugural lacrosse season on Saturday, Feb. 11 against the Wofford Terriers at 2:30 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field. This will be the first of a 17 game season, including 10 home games. For those who are unable to attend, the game will be broadcasted live on ACC Network. Live stats are available here.
Since leaving Richmond and accepting the head coaching job at Clemson in August 2021, Head Coach Allison Kwolek has spent the last year and a half building a game-ready team. At Richmond, Kwolek went 63-16, good for an 80% winning record. Assistant Coach Madison Carter joined Coach Kwolek just weeks later at the end of August and Assistant Coach Bill Olin came to Tigertown in May 2022.
Although Clemson lacrosse is a new team, the roster is built of many lacrosse veterans as it features 20 transfers from 16 schools. The team is led by captains Marina Miller and Mallory Martel.
In addition to the transfers, Clemson landed some of the best freshmen in the country. Defender Paris Masaracchia also enters the season ranked in Inside Lacrosse’s 2023 preseason top 100 freshman rankings.
The Clemson lacrosse players moved into campus in August of 2022 and quickly began preparing for the 2023 season. The Tigers had a successful first fall semester that was filled with practices, lifts, conditioning, team bonding and several scrimmages.
Fellow upstate South Carolina school, Wofford, will travel about 70 miles to play Clemson at Historic Riggs Field. The Terriers are led by first time Head Coach Jessie Aguglia and first time Assistant Coach Leigh Olson.
Following the conclusion of the game, players will be signing autographs on the concourse for fans in attendance.
