Clemson Finishes Opening Round In Sixth Position

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team kicked off the opening round of the FSU Match-Up on Friday, firing a 13-over-par, 301 team score. The Tigers conclude the first day in a sixth-place tie with South Florida.

Florida State, who is hosting the tournament on the par 72, 6,255-yard Seminole Legacy Golf Course, leads the field with a six-under-par, 282 score as a team. The Seminoles’ Beatrice Wallin, Golfstat’s 79th ranked individual, holds the top spot on the player’s leaderboard with a six-under 66 in the opening round. Kent State, the only other group besides the Seminoles to shoot under-par on the day, sits two shots back from the leader, while Coastal Carolina, Michigan, and Ohio State round out the top five positions.

Junior Ivy Shepherd and sophomore Savannah Grewal continued to be a steady piece of the Clemson lineup, both shooting a two-over-par 74 to open the tournament. Both players finished the first round in a five-way tie for 19th. Shepherd knocked in 14 of the Tigers’ 54 pars, a feat that ranked her second among the field as an individual and the team third.

Alexandra Swayne, who recorded her first top-10 finish in the Palmetto Intercollegiate last week, fired a four-over-par 76 to place her in the 26th position. Swayne had four birdies on the afternoon, leading the team in that category.

Just one shot back of Swayne, Gracyn Burgess, and Annabella Pancake compiled rounds of 77 to finish the day tied for 40th. Swayne was the top Clemson golfer for par-three scoring in the opening round with a 3.00 mark while Pancake ranked second across the team for par four scoring. Competing as an individual, Lindsay May finished the first round with a 14-over 86.

The Tigers will tee off the second round tomorrow morning every 10 minutes beginning at 9:50. Clemson will be accompanied by ACC competitors Florida State and Notre Dame in the pairings.
