Freshman Progress Report – Duke
After clinching the Atlantic Division for the fourth time in a row, the Tigers were back home in action against the Duke University Blue Devils under the lights of Death Valley for the first home night game of the season. The Tigers would get off to a slow start and would not score until the beginning of the second quarter as the Blue Devils dominated the first half applying pressure on the Tigers young quarterback.
Speaking of Trevor Lawrence, the freshman went 21-38 for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns, the Freshman would break another school record in this game as he set the freshman record for touchdown passes, bypassing Kyle Parker for 21 passes, earlier in the season, Lawrence would bypass Deshaun Watson’s record for touchdown passes and passing yards. Lawrence would find freshman Justyn Ross for a touchdown right before halftime to put the Tigers up 14-6.
Freshman Justyn Ross had a spectacular game. Ross, who dedicated this game to his mother, a US Veteran, who was in attendance tonight, had 76 receiving yards and made two impactful plays, that would set the Tigers up for a Tavien Feaster touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter and just before halftime would score another touchdown on a 19-yard pass from Trevor Lawrence.
Derion Kendrick would rush for three yards and would have 37 receiving yards.
Lyn-J Dixon would have 18 rushing yards on three attempts.
Xavier Thomas would cause a quarterback hurry.
Jake Venables assisted with tackles late in the fourth quarter.
BT Potter would continue to kickoff for the Tigers throughout the game.
The Tigers will be back in action next Saturday in Death Valley at 7:00 as they take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the battle for the Palmetto State.
