Clemson vs VMI – game 3
Clemson started their last game of the VMI series with freshman Justin Wrobleski on the bump. Wrobleski would have a quick 123 inning on 10 pitches. VMI would strike first, Diodato would score on a Huggins sac-fly at the top of the 3 inning. VMI would bring in another run on a Hollifield single.
Clemson would retire Justin Wrobleski after four innings and 66 pitches. Sophomore Sam Weatherly took over for the freshman.
VMI would add to their lead when Hollifield would be brought home when Smoot would take a walk.
After 6 scoreless innings, VMI pitcher Kent was replaced by Tremblay. Kent pitched 5.1 innings and threw 99 pitches. On the first pitch thrown by Tremblay, Fairey was hit by a pitch and would advance to first.
Clemson would finally get on the board after Michael Green was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded bringing Logan Davidson home.
A Kyle Wilkie walk would bring Davis Sharpe home to narrow the Keydets lead to one run.
VMI would quickly change pitchers after Tremblay would allow Clemson to score on walks. Tremblay wouldn’t pitch for the entire inning before being replaced by freshman pitcher, Zach Sanders.
Clemson would even the score and would score on a fielder’s choice that would bring Chad Fairey across homeplate.
A Jordan Greene single would send home Michael Green and Bryce Teodosio that would be followed by a Logan Davidson single that would send home Sam Hall.
During the bottom of the sixth inning, Clemson would send 10 batters to the plate and would score six runs on three hits, two walks and three hit by pitches.
Clemson would bring in Travis Marr at the top of the seventh inning. Marr replaced Sam Weatherly, who pitched 2.1 innings and threw 55 pitches.
VMI would get another score at the top of the 7th inning on a passed ball that would bring home Smoot.
VMI would change pitchers again after Sanders would pitch 1.2 innings and would throw 33 pitches.
Clemson would add to their lead in the bottom of the 8th inning with a grad slam by Sam Hall that would send himself, Teodosio, Wilkie and Green across homeplate and extend the Tigers lead by six runs.
A Grayson Byrd single would send Logan Davidson to the homeplate and extend the lead by 7 runs.
Freshman Jackson Lindley would close out the game for the Tigers, replacing Travis Marr who pitched two innings and threw 32 pitches.
VMI would add two more runs with Nuccio scoring on an error and Smoot would score on a passed ball.
Clemson swept the VMI series with a game three score of 11-6.
