Defensive Co-Ordinator Update

As the World Turns was a tv show as part of what we used to call “ Mom’s Stories” in the afternoon. Those old shows have nothing on Clemson fans, players and coaches. Since Lincoln Riley decided to run from the SEC (2025) out to the much easier Pac-12, Clemson’s world has been turned upside down.

There is a lot of speculation out there on what direction Coach Dabo Swinney will go with his defensive coordinator hire. Several sources have said that Swinney will wait till after the bowl game against Iowa State to name a full time DC. In the meantime, who will take the reins of one of the best defenses in the country.

Rumor has it that Senior Defensive Analyst Wes Goodwin and Mickey Conn, special teams coordinator and safeties coach, will take over the defense for the Iowa State game. Both of these guys have been instrumental in Clemson having one of the best defenses in the country. Rumor also has it that Goodwin was out in Kansas to talk with 4-star recruit Jaren Kanak, confirming one way or the other what the #1 player in the that state was thinking and how much of an affect BV’s leaving for OU had on him. Goodwin also served in the same position with the Tampa Bucs under Bruce Arians. He has been back at Clemson now for the last four years.

Word is that the players, when this was announced, erupted in cheers and are very happy about this move. 15 practices and no Brent Venables, this is an interview by live fire. Everyone is watching.
