We are reaching out to our wide network of sources for intel and info on the recruits that are expected to show up in Clemson for this week’s Dabo Swinney high school skills Camp. Being held once again on the practice fields of Jervey Meadows in front of the watchful eye of Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and his staff.
Also, this year after a change in NCAA rules , the Clemson football team is allowed to participate and drill the players attending the camp and interact with them… in a setting as close to a simulated practice as you can find. So to say things will be interesting watching the story lines of Offered and Un-offered prospects competing against each other in an atmosphere unlike many of them are used to.
We can tell you that 2019 Commit Frank Ladson Jr is expected to be in town for this years camp, we are still trying to confirm if its a visit or if the big time WR out of Florida will compete. With a commitment already in the books we are thinking this is a social call. But you never know some kids just like to get out there and ball-out any time they can. And it never looks bad to perspective WRU candidates to see how they mesh with commits. Again just one of the MANY story lines we expect to see this year.
It was just last year at this same camp players like Hartsville, SC Defensive End Demonte Capeheart, who walked in and impressed so much at last years event, that performance and the info leaked out by media afterwards have led to offers from all over the power five. This is how quick it can happen, one day in a camp like this and if you can impress the coaches, next thing you know you’re “on the RADAR”.
With a very highly regarded list of 2019,2020 and 2021 and even some 2022’s drawing interest from the Clemson coaching staff… Pay particular interest as we report over the next three days on players we see making noise at this camp. The Coaches will really get an up close look at these players on the field and off, as they will also take this chance to soak in the recruits performances and how they handle the camp and especially compete against like or superior talent.
Story lines to watch here include the 2019 QB’s as the Tigers are looking to add a 2nd scholarship offer to the 2019 Commit list after the loss of Hunter Johnson to transfer earlier this spring. A host of Qb’s will be in town this week to vy for that offer. 2020 QB Luke Doty is one to watch as the Myrtle Beach product has shined in camps all spring and summer, Doty as a dual threat QB with serious 4.4-4.5 speed at QB is legit despite concerns about the 6’1 QB’s height.
A WRU target that will be in town is one of my personal faves for 2020 in Ze’Vian Capers a 6’4 215 Wide bodied wide out with huge upside out of the Peach State. Look for him to really put on a show as he looks to be the “cream of the crop” at Wide out for the first session of the camp.
If anything, past Dabo Camps have always resulted in “offers” being dispensed to unknown players that showed up and impressed or players that were on the cusp of an offer and the coaches just needed to see and evaluate in person prior to dispensing the offer. Those will happen again you can expect it as it has for the previous years of its existence.
A couple of big story lines to follow this week could be Offensive Line offers and visitors along with who get a QB offer if at all as the Tigers are serious about taking 2 QB’s this cycle.
