Clemson Ranked Fourth of All Men’s Golf Polls
Clemson, S.C.—Clemson is ranked fourth in the nation in all three men’s college golf rankings this week. It is the highest list of rankings for the program since the spring of 2009 when the Tigers team featured future PGA players Ben Martin, Sam Saunders and Kyle Stanley.
The CGCA announced its latest poll on Friday and the number-four ranking is Clemson’s highest in that poll since April 22, 2009 when the Tigers were also fourth. The Golfweek/Sagarin ranking, also released on Friday, also has the Tigers fourth. Golfstat released its rankings on Tuesday of this week and had Clemson fourth.
Oklahoma is first, Florida State second and Oklahoma State is third in all three of the rankings. Clemson will join the second-ranked Seminoles, Wake Forest (sixth in the Coaches poll), and NC State (9th in coaches poll), at the ACC Tournament next week (April 23-26) at the Capital City Crabapple Course in Atlanta for the ACC Tournament.
The Tigers have won three of their last four tournaments, including the recent outing at the Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham (Ala.). Clemson won that tournament against a field that included seven top 25 teams and nine SEC teams. Clemson beat the nine SEC teams by a combined 203 shots.
In the individual rankings, junior Jacob Bridgeman is ranked fourth by Golfweek and ninth by Golfstat. Bridgeman’s 69.33 stroke average is second in the nation behind Pontus Nyholm of Campbell, who has a 69.28 average. Bridgeman is also sixth in the nation in par four scoring and ninth in par three scoring.
Senior Turk Pettit is ranked 17th by Golfstat and 19th by Golfweek. Pettit has four top 10 finishes this year and has a 70.17 stroke average. Colby Patton is ranked 79th by Golfstat and 97th in the nation by Golfweek, and gives Clemson three players among the top 100 players in the nation.
