Clemson Men’s Track 2023 ACC CHAMPS


RALEIGH, N.C. – For the first time since 2004, the Clemson men’s track and field program won the ACC Outdoor Championship. The meet came down to the last event, the men’s 4×400 meter relay, with Clemson trailing the leader by four points. The team of Wanya McCoy, D’Andre Anderson, Cameron Rose and Tarees Rhoden won the relay with a meet record time of 3:02.25 to bring Program Director Mark Elliott his first ever men’s ACC Championship.

FULL RESULTS

Rose earned the men’s track MVP award for his performances, as he was thrice crowned ACC Champion today in the 4×100 meter relay, 200 meter dash, and 4×400 meter relay. Rose also finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a personal best wind legal 10.17 second time. McCoy won the men’s track MVP award at the indoor championship meet in February. He is the first outdoor ACC MVP since Tevin Hester in 2016, and this was the first season in which Clemson has had a different winner of the ACC MVP Award in both indoor and outdoor since 1990.

Other notable finishes that contributed to the victory included the men’s 4×100 meter relay of Wanya McCoy, Guinove Joanus, Cameron Rose and Giano Roberts that set the school record on its way to the ACC title. Roberts also claimed second place in the 110 meter hurdles.

Tarees Rhoden, who anchored the meet-clinching 4×400 meter relay team, won ACC gold in the 400 meter run. D’Andre Anderson finished second in that race. Rose and McCoy also finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 meter dash.

Second Team All-ACC performers on the men’s side included Jevon Williams in the 110 meter hurdles (13.84). He finished fifth in that race. Theron Bradford finished fifth in the 400 meter run (47.87).

The Clemson women’s team finished in 10th place. Antoinette Van der Merwe led the way for the women with a personal best 13.18 in the 100 meter hurdles to finish second. The 4×400 meter relay team of KK Gadson, Lashanna Graham, Van der Merwe and Courtney Williams finished third with a time of 3:32.87.

The Tigers will be back in action from May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla. for the NCAA East Region Prelims.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Oneka Wilson (13.33) and Antoinette Van der Merwe (13.41) both qualified for the 100 meter hurdles finals. Wilson, a freshman, won the 60 meter hurdles ACC Indoor Championship in February.
  • Giano Roberts (13.44) and Jevon Williams (13.79) both qualified for the 110 meter hurdles finals. Roberts won the 60 meter hurdles National Championship in March.
  • KK Gadson’s 53.06 400 meter run time earned her a spot in the finals. She will compete in that race as well as the 400 meter hurdles finals on Saturday.
  • A whopping four Tigers qualified for the men’s 400 meter finals. D’Andre Anderson, Aman Thornton, Tarees Rhoden and Theron Bradford will all compete in the finals of the event.
  • Ockera Myrie’s personal best 11.42 100 meter dash was third best on the day and sent her to Saturday’s finals.
  • Cameron Rose and Dashinelle Dyer both ran 10.28 in the 100 meter dash to qualify for Saturday’s finals.
  • Brynne Sumner (2:05.92) qualified for the 800 meter run finals.
  • Aman Thornton (1:47.68) and Tarees Rhoden (1:48.32) both qualified for Saturday’s finals. Rhoden is the reigning ACC Champion in the event.
  • Isabelle Klett finished eighth in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.52 meters. That is good for No. 5 in school history.
  • Nia Christie set a personal best 12.21 meter triple jump to finish ninth in the conference.
  • Ryan John’s 15.15 meter triple jump was eighth best.
  • Maddie Dinneen ran a personal best 10:36.78 to move up to No. 3 in school history in the event.

THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Daniel Cope threw a school record 64.67 meters in the hammer throw to finish third in the conference and earn First Team All-ACC honors.
  • Shantae Foreman finished fifth in the long jump, leaping 6.12 meters and earning a spot on the All-ACC Second Team.
  • Ethan Cocco threw a personal best 65.64 meter javelin throw to finish fifth and earn a spot on the All-ACC Second Team.
  • Lashanna Graham (56.89) and KK Gadson (57.17) finished second and third in the 400 meter hurdle prelims to qualify for finals.
  • Cameron Rose (20.56) and Wanya McCoy (20.71) finished third and fourth in the 200 meter dash to qualify for finals.
  • Ockera Myrie (23.01) finished first in the 200 meter prelims to qualify for finals.
  • Jevon Williams (50.03) finished first in the 400 meter hurdles to qualify for finals.
